The Inspiration Behind Amiqura Turmeric Tea

Meet the founder Michael with his daughter Amelie

When Amelie was four she had a fall while running to school. A few days later her mother and I noticed swelling in her left knee and ankle, and soon after she began limping. Despite a clear X-ray, her symptoms worsened—she experienced pain and joint stiffness, particularly in the mornings. I remember having to push her on a scooter to school until her joints warmed up enough for her to walk and play normally.

After multiple GP visits, blood tests, an eye exam, and an echocardiogram, we were referred to St. George’s Hospital, where Amelie was diagnosed with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (OJIA), an inflammatory condition affecting the joints in children under 16.

Her treatment included steroid injections directly into her inflamed joint which provided temporary relief. She was also prescribed prednisolone, ranitidine, and ibuprofen, which helped manage her pain and stiffness in between injections.

Amiqura Turmeric Tea was inspired by my wonderful daughter Amelie.

Despite the distressing procedures, Amelie remained her bubbly self and made many friends in the hospital whilst awaiting her operation.

We knew the injections were only a short-term fix. Doctors strongly recommended weekly Methotrexate injections, but her mother and I were hesitant. We saw other children undergoing years of these treatments with little improvement, and we wanted to explore alternatives.

We spent hours researching juvenile arthritis and inflammation. Amelie had an allergy test, and we removed dairy and gluten from her diet. With more research we discovered the powerful anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric!

At first, I made a turmeric paste and applied it to Amelie’s joints at bedtime. Unfortunately, it only provided minimal relief aswell as leaving her bedsheets stained orange!

Further research led me to discover that combining turmeric with black pepper significantly boosts the body’s ability to absorb curcumin, turmeric’s key anti-inflammatory compound.

Determined to find a better solution, I experimented with making a turmeric tea. I combined fresh turmeric root, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper and coconut oil into a paste, which I stored in the fridge. I gave Amelie a teaspoon of this paste with honey in hot water every morning and night. Before long, she stopped waking up with joint stiffness, and her swelling disappeared!

Believing she no longer needed it, I stopped giving her the tea—only for her symptoms to return. This setback became a blessing in disguise, confirming that turmeric tea played a crucial role in managing her arthritis.

I restarted her daily turmeric tea doses, and within a month her symptoms vanished again. At each hospital check-up, she continued to show improvement until she was fully discharged. She has been arthritis-free ever since!

I continued making the turmeric paste for Amelie and started drinking it myself. Not only did it taste great, but I noticed it boosted my immune system and aided my recovery after gym sessions. I shared our story with family and friends, and soon they were asking me to make batches for them too.

Over the years, I refined the recipe—experimenting with different ingredients, perfecting the flavour, and developing a powdered version for longer shelf life.

Eventually, I decided to expand my passion making the benefits of this incredible spice accessible to everyone.
